Hello, my name is JASON GATES.

Full Stack Software Engineer.

I am a Military veteran with 17 years of IT experience.

Currently I am looking for opportunities as a Full-Stack Software Engineer.

About Me

I am an experienced Software Engineer with a strong background in building scalable full stack web applications. I thrive in collaborative team environments and pride myself on writing readable, DRY, and modular code.

Prior to my journey into Software Engineering I was in communications in the US Army. After my service I spent 17 years providing commercial and residential IT support to clients. My background gives me a unique perspective of both the client experience and the business impact on development.

I am seeking new opportunities where I can be an immediate contributor while growing as an engineer.

Projects

Front-End Engineer

Atelier E-Commerce Website

This project was to re-design an E-Commerce site whose traffic had outgrown its design and capacity. We took a wireframe Adobe XD design and rebuilt the site into a monolithic front end using exising microservices. The site was built in an Agile environment team of four engineers using JavaScript, React Hooks, and Context used for state management.

Technologies used include:

  • React
  • Hooks
  • HTML
  • CSS
  • Axios
  • Jest
  • Webpack
  • Babel

Back-End Engineer

Atelier E-Commerce Microservice

Our client's E-Commerce platform had outgrown its ability to meet increased traffic. My team was tasked with taking a monolithic E-Commerce Front-End application and designing a scalable back-end. We were able to design, implement, deploy, and scale our microservices while having no downtime on current production. This allowed our client to increase traffic capacity from 60 RPS to over 10,000 with less than 0.05% error rate.

Technologies used include:

  • JavaScript
  • Node.js
  • PostgreSQL
  • RESTful API Design
  • AWS
  • Redis

Full-Stack Engineer

Space Werewolves

A clone of the popular social deception game Werewolves. This full stack application was built by my team of eight developers in an Agile environment. We utilized a two day sprint schedule and Trello to track our tickets and bugs. I worked on the Loading Bay as well as the core game rules set and authentication using passport. I also filled in pair programming on almost every aspect of the development.

Technologies used include:

  • JavaScript
  • React
  • Hooks
  • React Router
  • styled-components
  • passport
  • MongoDB
